Welcome to the Enigma

In 2387, the Hobus star went supernova, destroying Romulus and sending the Romulan Star Empire into disarray. In an offer of friendship, Starfleet dispatched Bravo Fleet's Task Force 93 to Romulan space to aid relief efforts. Shrewder elements within Starfleet, however, saw it another way: it was a perfect opportunity to collect information and influence affairs within the Empire, as never before has there been such open access to Romulan space.

Welcome to the USS Enigma, an Ares-class vessel attached to Bravo Fleet's Task Force 93. Officially, its role is to assist the tenuous Romulan government with dissident factions. Unofficially, however, its darker purpose is to gather intelligence on the Empire and conduct covert operations to ensure that the next era of the Empire is one favorable to the Federation.

With such a mandate, the USS Enigma is no ordinary commission. Beyond general starship operations, the rest of the standard crew compliment has been foregone in favor of a cross-discipline Starfleet Intelligence Special Operations detachment. Instead of a Marine detachment, it carries an Operations unit with teams prepared for direct engagements and unconventional operations such as surveillance, infiltration and interrogation; instead of a Diplomatic Corps unit, it includes a Negotiations Unit equipped not only to handle diplomatic affairs but also to perform behavioral analysis and handle hostage negotiations; and instead of the Strategic Operations, Intelligence, and Science departments, it has an Analysis Unit that bridges the three disciplines to offer comprehensive operational assessment and planning.

Ever wonder about the darker side of Starfleet? The Enigma is looking for creative writers interested in being part of one such story. As it is just getting underway, it has many senior positions available, so please feel free to check out our sim details and upcoming missions and, if you're interested, submit an application today!

The aura of the grand forum had completely changed overnight. Only hours earlier, welcoming platters of food and pitchers of ale had adorned the cedar table, lit by a warm orange from cauldrons simmering along the walls. Now, the food and drink had been replaced by PADDs, and sterile white…

Posted on Thu May 2nd, 2013 @ 2:33am by Commander (Riov) Karlot & Senator Ariana t'Tellus & Governor Trevolok & Admiral (EnRiov) P'alas & Senator Vorenus & Governor Tarov

As Governor Tarov stepped through the security checkpoint at the entrance to the compound, he shook his head. Even though it had been nearly two days since their arrival, he still wasn't used to seeing Starfleet uniforms crawling all over his compound. Still, at least they were moderately respectful and…

Mission: Walk Lightly
Posted on Thu May 2nd, 2013 @ 2:31am by Captain Jaxon Amolyae Jr & Commander Jake Lewis

Commander Lewis was sitting in his ready room when the watch officer hailed him from the bridge that they'd picked up a faint Starfleet comm signal. He was up at once, moving swiftly for the door, it barely sliding wide enough to pass through before he reached it.

"Comma...wis...enant Amoly...…

"You wanted to see me, Sir?"

After briefing both the Remans and her own group of people, Elana reported to Jaxon as he had told her to do. She wasn't happy at all with the situation, though on the other hand, she also blamed herself for not thinking about something…

ON:
The sun was bright and warm as the breeze carried the tart smell of fallen fruit up to the family porch where Neymen sat. He lounged in a wooden recliner and sipped lazily on a bottle of his father's latest brew. It tasted of the earth fruit, blackberries, he'd…

» Our Mission GM

Posted on Wed Mar 6th, 2013 @ 6:56am by Commander Jake Lewis in Announcements

Given a heavy task load on my plate over the next few months as development of the Fleet Management System continues full bore ahead, I am pleased to announce that Matthew (Captain Amolyae) will be stepping into the role of GM for the current mission.

In character, this is fitting as the mission will take place in the Algorab compound where Captain Amolyae will be in charge of all security operations while Lewis remains aboard the Enigma. I will still be writing for a number of the Romulan characters at the summit, but Lewis will take a back burner role for the majority of this mission.

» More Operators and Romulans

Posted on Sun Feb 10th, 2013 @ 11:09pm by Commander Jake Lewis in Announcements

I'm pleased to announce the arrival of another member of our Tactical Unit, Corporal Miles Freeman. He comes to Alpha Team as a Demolitions specialist, a brash Marine NCO who just cleared out of the Intelligence Special Operation training program. Before coming to SI-SO, he had an interesting ride through the Corps and then the Operations Bureau within Starfleet Intelligence.

In addition, I'm also happy to welcome aboard Andreas, who will be guest writing Senator Ariana t'Tellus, the sister of his character aboard the IRV Imperiax (Sub-Lieutenant Valkis tr'Tellus). Ariana is a member of the old guard within the Senate and may bring a voice of reason to a table of heated personalities.

» Government Summit Dignitaries

Posted on Fri Feb 8th, 2013 @ 10:16am by Commander Jake Lewis in Announcements

As part of the in-progress set of posts around the Day 2 briefing, Lewis is going to cover a number of the key figures that Intelligence knows will be at the summit on Algorab. These dignitaries include senators representing the provisional government, a mediator who has experience dealing with troubled colonies, governors who are loyal to the provisional government, governors with dissenting and secessionist tendencies, and officers from Galae Command and the Tal'Shiar. As such, I've started adding these characters to the "Recurring & Departed Personnel" manifest.

As a heads up, many of these characters are sourced directly from the Task Force story as a whole (introduced on other ships such as the Adelaide, Imperiax, Yorktown and Outpost 93). It will be important that we all have a working understanding of how these people relate in the proceedings (at least so far as what's described in the "Personality Description" part of their bios and how they're described in the briefing before), so that we can pursue individual posts with them - since a large part of our mission will be posts surveilling what they're up to during the summit. Please feel free to direct any questions about them my way.
